Why Marketing Skills Are So Important to Succeed in Your Business

Why Marketing Skills Are So Important to Succeed in Your Business

By Scott Geertsen

The most fundamental skill of online business is marketing. You are there to sell. Although the internet is a relatively new technology, and is still growing exponentially every year, many of the principles of marketing which you will need to follow to be successful are carried over from the older technologies, and are proven to work over many decades.

Because it is now so easy to write and publish information on the internet, many rookie marketers are attempting to cash in on the huge demand for "make money online" information, before they have any proven track record of ever having made any money online. This is why you need to be so careful who you buy information from. Make sure the author actually has a proven record of marketing successfully. Learning to identify the real experts is your first marketing skill. Listening and buying information form the mildly successful or unsuccessful marketer will lead to nothing but frustration and a waste of your valuable time...and as you know or should know, time is money!

One of the most fundamental skills of marketing is being able to read your target market and audience. You need to be able to ascertain exactly what it is they are looking for. You want to know them inside out and what motivates them. What do they want out of life and how committed are they to their career or lifestyle? This is where the internet has made the marketer's job so much easier, as there are sites which effectively tell you what your prospects are searching for.

If you visit an affiliate network site, for example, you can see at a glance which products are selling best at that particular time. There is no secret being kept. If you can take the products which are selling well, and add your own unique improvement to them, you have every chance of success.

Forums and online groups will tell you exactly what you need to know. You will be able to see which questions the target market want answering. You will know which threads are attracting the most page views and interest.

Once you have created a product based on the information you have gleaned from these sites, selling it depends on being able to attract the right sort of visitor to your site, and being able to persuade that visitor to buy once they have arrived. In the end, all marketing comes down to is understanding what your audience needs or wants and showing them you have exactly what they are looking for. This is the Holy Grail of traffic and conversions.

7 Marketable Skills for your Career Search

7 Marketable Skills for your Career Search

Author: Kenneth Anczerewicz

While each employer and every different company is looking for specific things in its candidates, there are certain skills that every employer require. These are the qualities and traits that make you successful in a professional environment, no matter what type of company or business you work for, no matter whether your job is corporate or creative.

I've outlined the top 7 marketable skills that companies look for in job candidates:

1)Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Being able to express yourself articulately is essential in the corporate world (and in every aspect of life!)

2)Able to build strong relationships. Companies want to hire people who get along well with other people. Show that your a person who enjoys making contributions to group efforts and has a willingness to interact with and be helpful to others.

3)Great work ethic. Employers want to hire people who will work long hours if necessary, put in extra time, and not complain. Employers want new hires with integrity and who take pride in the quality of their work. What they don't want are candidates who are simply looking to work 9-5 without any flexibility.

4)Computer-savvy. In today's world knowing how to use a computer is essential to succeed in the business world. Get ahead of other candidates by developing a list on your resume of the various computer programs that you use on a regular basis.

5)Problem-solving abilities. All jobs have hurdles and pitfalls along their roads. Employers want to know that you will be able to handle whatever comes your way with grace under pressure, and that you are capable of dealing with difficulty on your own if necessary.

6)Creativity. Employees who can offer creative ideas to common challenges are very desirable to employers. Being able to think outside the box is a huge plus, because it will help the company get ahead of its competition. Creativity can include an artistic flair, outside the box solutions that save money, or any other ideas that make you stand out from the crowd.

7)Punctuality. Time is money, and being on time shows respect for others. No employer wants to hire candidates who show up late for work or for the interview. The employer won't want to take a chance on an employee who may keep the client waiting!

Now that you know what's important to employers, make a point of either listing them on your resume or writing them up as part of your cover letter so that employers will know you actually possess them! All you have to do is turn each skill into a bullet point:

Marketing Skills Using Quality and Duplication

Marketing Skills Using Quality and Duplication

By Susan L Gibson

Having been in the multilevel marketing business off and on for several years, the most obvious failure I have found is the principal of traditional duplication. Duplication is not merely copying what you're up-line tells you, whether it be on posters, phone calls, or customer contact, etc. Through many trials and errors, I find that it is only the 'process or technique' of duplication that really works. Often in the multilevel marketing business, you are told, "Do it exactly this way, we know it works." Well, apparently it did work for some, as they are among the top producers, or other highly sought after position. However; have you ever been told when these people started out in their multilevel marketing business, how much money they had to spend or how many leads they had to buy, and lastly, how many failures they had to experience in marketing their multilevel marketing business? We all know that the time frame for traditional duplication has past. The tools used today are those taught in direct marketing. Duplication is used by process.

Times have changed. Progress is the transition of things, all things. Today, the 'quality' of the duplication you present is what makes the difference. Quality is a difficult characteristic to define. It has a property of individuality and excellence. It brings value to you and creates within your marketing a presence of authority. Quality is not a natural attribute. It is something to be worked toward and built up in you. Quality is actually an inherent and distinguishing trait. While you may be well versed in some skills of marketing, you must also be willing to build a base for quality and character. Everything you say or write, or stand behind, must be something you can own. Take responsibility for yourself.

Once you know the principals of marketing; add quality to that skill as well as personality. When you have added those attributes to your marketing ability, your targeted traffic will tend to look toward you and the information that you have to give, as having value and worth. No cut and paste, just quality information that is a solution to the needs of your targeted market in your own words. You must study the market, follow the trends, know your customer base, and be willing to make any necessary adjustments as time passes. Educate yourself, read everything you can, read what everyone is doing and saying, watch and go to seminars, do whatever it takes to make you a very informed person about marketing. Own your skill.

When you have created value and authority in your marketing and have useful information that provides solutions, then you are on your way to establishing quality in your marketing. No one said it would be quick or easy, but taking the time to educate yourself will empower you with an essence of character and quality. Education will broaden your outlook. Duplication will be your own. If you teach it to others and they get it, you have given them more knowledge to accompany their marketing skills and opportunity for success. What they do with that knowledge, is their responsibility.

Giving quality to your marketing skills is the dynamic of a high position of value. Whatever you do, take responsibility for your skills and own them, brand them as your own. Hard work and education are positive markers for building any marketing skill. Give the skills you learn a positive nature. Marketing is not just about words. It is using the right words at the proper time in the best context to capture your market. Learning all you can about quality, will improve your marketing skills and give them the character that identifies you.

7 Skills on How to Become a Marketing Manager

7 Skills on How to Become a Marketing Manager

By Candice Ellis

There are seven skills needed to work as a marketing manager. Several of these skills revolve around communication with people and some of them require your personal knowledge; such as how to navigate a computer. Nonetheless, this is what employers expect of you. Employers expect these skills to correspond to your work ethic as well as your experience. I have done thorough research throughout three different occupations within the field of becoming a Marketing Manager and all of them required these seven skills in order to be hired. Depending upon how many of these seven skills you possess, you may find yourself being in the right industry and find that you have the skills to be a successful marketing manager.

7 skills needed to work as a marketing manager are:

1. Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
This skill is needed daily. If you cannot interact with people let alone customers, how are you going to ever persuade someone to purchase your product? It will be extremely difficult. Don't be a stranger, start today by strike up conversations with your friends, mentors, even your professors.

2. Must possess the ability to write well
There is a difference between writing well and just plain writing. Writing well enables you to dig deep into your vocabulary and make what your writing interesting for your readers. The ability to understand what is grammatically correct and incorrect will be foreseen through every memorandum or business plan you write.

3. Advanced computer skills using the Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Power-point
These three things are the basic necessary skills one will need in order to operate within an occupation. The inability to type fast and navigate these pages will create an extreme difficultly for you. Computers are becoming a part of human society's everyday lives so if you have not purchased Microsoft Office, buy it now and begin learning how to use it!

4. Be outgoing and optimistic
In order to be comfortable within your work environment, one must be able to interact with others cordially and even at times in a joking manner. Work should be productive but also enjoyable. Being optimistic will start you off on the right foot of everyday. Go into work with the attitude that you're going to work hard but also be upbeat and excited for your job; more colleagues will like you and you will have the correct mindset to gain customers!

5. Team Oriented
You must be able to work well with others. Meetings with other employees and executives will become part of your daily routine. The way to impress the executives will be to show how diligent and how cooperative you and your team worked. If someone isn't pulling their weight, pull them aside and let me know what they need to be doing.

6. Exhibits Problem Solver Qualities
Whether it's finding a solution with a failing product or resolving a disagreement with your boss, you'll need to be able to possess the quality of innovation in order to fix the product's issue or create a new product. Another quality that a problem solver possesses is respect. Showing respect during a misunderstanding will only make you look classy and professional; it can even make you stand out above other employees and how they cope with problems.

7. Obtains Presentation and Project Management Skills
Creating power-point presentations and being able to present them properly will impress your employer as well as your colleagues a great deal. There is nothing worse than becoming bored and uncertain of what one is presenting. Make your presentation interesting and make people want to listen to what you're talking about. The ability to manage a project due date is another tool you will need in order to ensure that you and your team are on schedule.

After combining all of these necessary skills to employers that are vital to your success within this career, you will soon become a successful marketing manager. Possessing and perfecting each of these skills throughout your career can only loft you into becoming a better employee and possibly score you a promotion.

Developing Basic Sales and Marketing Skills

Developing Basic Sales and Marketing Skills

By Valentine Okolo

Delivering continued customer satisfaction through value adding sales and marketing is essential to ensure that customers remain loyal to the product/service they enjoy. Customers care about their own satisfaction than they do about the success or failure of the company you represent. As such, to be successful in selling, the product or service you wish to sell must be able to satisfy the customer. Good selling involves providing the right product and services to your customers thereby creating customer satisfaction and value. Your ability to fulfill your customers need will determine your level of success in selling or marketing. Effective marketing and selling skills are not acquired by accident, they are acquired through practice and what you practice is acquired through knowledge. You must understand that the right marketing skills are not developed through random selling. Having an effective selling strategy helps you to logically craft how to identify and manage the whole sales process and you must understand that being a good salesman starts with you.

As a general rule, you should try to create interest first in what you intend to sell. If you don't believe in what company does, why work for them? If you don't believe in a product/service, why sell it? Note that if you don't believe in yourself, nobody will. There's nothing more embarrassing than a salesman who lacks product knowledge.

Secondly, you need to develop your personal standards. Being known to exhibit excellence creates trust, dependability, responsibility and integrity for you in the market place. The word standard means a level of excellence required or specified. The drive to always achieve excellence should form a part of your character. To maintain high personal standards, you need to make quality decisions based on moral strength and principles. These areas of standards include growth, honesty, integrity, relationship, energy and action. Of all these standards I would like to talk a little bit about integrity for the purpose of this article. This is because integrity is arguably one of the most important personal, professional or ethical standards a professional marketer or salesman should have. The word integrity in itself stands for moral excellence, wholeness and in many ways honesty. Customers trust you when they know you maintain a high sense of integrity in selling. This means that you will always treat customer sales or marketing transactions transparently, exclude moral excellence in all sales or marketing deals, keep to commitment and accept full responsibility for your actions. A salesman of integrity gains customers' trust over time and when you develop trust you gain loyalty and respect.

Thirdly you will have to ensure your customer communication skills are excellent. Good communication skills is a must earn to provide excellent sales and marketing. This involves listening, asking questions, being courteous, communicating clearly and accurately, minding your customers feelings, proper use of non-verbal language, skills in handling problem customers, use of technical knowledge and concepts, handling customer objections and questions and keeping your customers informed at all times. I like to talk about listening a lot because this most times forms the bedrock for proper communication between salesmen/marketers and customers. As a great salesman, you should know when to stop talking and listen to your customers. Listening involves hearing and should be demonstrated even in your body language. You won't be able to serve your customers' needs in selling, if you do not stop talking long enough to understand what they are saying. Ask questions to clarify points and take important notes to ensure you remember all the important points of the conversation.

Having developed effective customer communication skills, you will then need to work on your marketing strategies. Having an effective marketing strategy helps you to logically craft how to identify, create and manage the whole sales and marketing process. Your marketing and sales strategy will involve how to develop multiple outreach sources, identifying and creating product need, handling the actual sales and marketing process, handling customer objections during the sales and marketing process as well as closing your sales in a grand style.

Your clients should be able to understand how you can create benefit or value for them. Good selling is value selling. When a product purchased or service rendered exceeds customer expectations, value is received and customer satisfaction is guaranteed. In selling, always pinpoint the benefits derivable from a product to ensure the customer constantly enjoys this benefit. What you intend to offer should fulfill a desired need and ultimately create satisfaction. Customers buy satisfaction. If you do not provide satisfaction in the long run, then you have not made a great sale. Creating customer satisfaction is key to customer retention. Provide evidence to back your claims and avoid overwhelming the client with too much sales information. Researching the market is key to business development as well. This will enable you identify your target clients beforehand. This means that you will need to identify where and who your primary market really is. You also need to identify your niche market and strategies to win your niche market as well. You will also need to have some basic knowledge on business development.

Business development is the process by which new business is introduced. A good salesman should be skilled in the act of developing new business as well as expanding already existing ones. In order to develop new business effectively, you must understand that it involves researching the market, identifying key targets, constructing an outreach plan which was earlier discussed, securing meetings, creating proposals and following up on leads.

7 Great Tips on How to Improve Your Marketing Skills and Make Profits in Your Online Business

7 Great Tips on How to Improve Your Marketing Skills and Make Profits in Your Online Business

By Ariston P Awitan

I used to wonder in the past why some network-marketers can recruit people easily in their online businesses, while others, including me, were struggling in spite of hard work. I spent long hours in cold calling, attending conference call and hotel meetings but still, I could hardly convince people to join our home-based business. What's the problem?

This question had been bugging me for several years while trying to develop my network-marketing organization. I knew that I was serious, accountable, passionate, had belief in myself and belief in the products of the company.

Then I thought I need to try harder. So I tapped my warm market and bought expensive leads. I encouraged my prospects to attend conference calls. I sent extensive e-mails to my prospects, yet I was still frustrated because only a few joined my organization. There has got to be a better way!

I kept on searching for a better way to recruit people. Then one day, I came across The 7 Great Lies of network marketing. This is a free book that opened my eyes and showed me all the things that I had been dong wrong with my prospecting. It showed me that prospecting for members of your organization is less effective than marketing my product.
Actually I learned that the real product that I should market is not even my company product. The real product is me. So I have to know how to market myself. I have to position myself in the market place, develop and share values to my prospects so that they will look for me instead of me chasing them.

So here are the six great tips to improve your marketing and make profits on your online business:

1. Know exactly what you are doing wrong with your prospecting.

2. Learn from reliable sources like available--learn all the flaws of the old methods of prospecting.

3. Look for tools and training programs that teach you step by step how to create values that are useful for your prospects

4. Be resourceful in searching for the better ways to promote your personal website.

5. Evaluate the effectiveness of your new-found method.

6. Learn the techniques, educate yourself, be patient, learn and apply what you learned.

7. Teach and help others about your new-found model of marketing.

Patience is required if you really want to be a professional and eventually benefit from the wealth of materials to be learned.

Lately I discovered a Free Mentoring system which has been proven and is duplicable. You can use it for any online business that you are promoting. The link is in the author's Box.
The effort you spend in learning this new model of marketing is all worth your precious time. You will learn the techniques to market yourself, so that your prospects will look for you, follow you and even join you in your organization

You do not need to harass anyone anymore. Your prospects will be lining up for your opportunity instead. And then you will realize why Traditional out-dated methods of marketing are literally self-sabotaging your success.

5 Skills Needed to Get a Job in Marketing

5 Skills Needed to Get a Job in Marketing

By Amber Cottrell

In today's economy, jobs are scarce, so it is important to have every advantage you can get. A college degree is usually a must, and a master's degree will always stand out when you go for interviews. Along with these advantages, there are certain skills that you must possess in order to be successful in the marketing field. These are the top 5 skills that jobs in the marketing field require.

1. Communication Skills (Written and Oral)
In order to do business, you have to be able to communicate with your customers. There are countless meetings and documents being drawn up when you are in the marketing field so you need to be able to communicate effectively. If you are not able to speak fluently and articulately then you will have trouble doing business with others. If you have weak writing skills, then you will not be able to record and/or process data that you need to do business.

2. Strong Computer Skills
A majority of marketing firms require strong computer skills. The basics would include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Many firms also use software specific to their company or corporation. A strong background in computers is always helpful, and having the ability to learn new programs quickly and use them efficiently is a must. There is always new technology and software coming out, so employees need to be able to change with the market, and keep up on current software programs as they come out.

3. Ability to Commit Time
In this field there may be many opportunities to travel to do business. If you are open to travel and have the time to give to the job, then you will move up quickly. Along with this, many companies have several locations, so it helps to be able to relocate yourself for your job. Some marketing jobs may be commission based, so this may require extra time on your part to reach your desired pay amount. This job field is not a 40 hours a week job, extra time is needed if you want to succeed.

4. Personal/Relationship Skills
There will always be meetings, luncheons, and interactions with your customers in this field. The main focus of marketing is to find a way to create customer interest in your product or service, so you need to be able to sell yourself and your company to others. If you are not able to relate to others, or get them to relate to you, then your product will not succeed in the market place. You need to be able to make connections with people, and be able to persuade them to purchase or use your product or service.

5. Multi-Tasking/Time Management Skills
Every job will require you to manage your time wisely, but with marketing there are always endless deadlines for data, campaigns, and projects. You need to be able to handle different projects at once, and be able to meet all your deadlines. If you fail to do this, it may cost your company millions of dollars in sales, extra hours of work, or even your job.
In conclusion, you need to be able to communicate with others efficiently, adapt to technological changes in the market, commit time and possibly travel, be personable and relate to people, and manage your time well. These 5 skills all put together will make you a success in the professional world.

Increase Sales by Uniting Your Marketing Skills & Selling Skills To a Proven Sales Process

Increase Sales by Uniting Your Marketing Skills & Selling Skills To a Proven Sales Process

Increase Sales by Uniting Your Marketing Skills & Selling Skills To a Proven Sales Process
By Leanne Hoagland-Smith

Increase sales happens when marketing skills and selling skills work together within a proven sales process. Yet, for many small businesses and even some larger ones, these skills and direct activities related to these skills work independently of each other. In some cases, marketing and selling actually work against each other.

To increase sales begins by adopting a proven sales process that unites marketing skills and selling skills. For both skill sets are necessary to secure the desired result of a sale.

With the adoption of a proven sales process, each step will be quickly identified as a marketing skill or a selling skill and the steps will be sequential in order. For example, in the sales process that I use with my business client, the first step is to Gain Attention. Unless you have the attention of your suspect or prospect, you will not be able to make the sale.

Gaining Attention is a marketing skill. Do you have a branded image? Is your message so different that people immediately come up to you to learn more about you or your company? No selling is happening at this time. Yet, many sales people try to jump in and sell something. Bad decision because the result is a lost sale.

Next step within the Proven Sales Process is Building the Relationship. Again, this is a marketing skill because until the relationship is solid, you cannot sell anything with any degree of success. Within both of these first two steps, the effective salesperson will have strong communication skills especially active listening.

After the relationship is built, the selling skills kick in during Step Three - Discovering Wants and Needs. For some sales people, some of these needs may be been discovered during the first two steps. Now is the time to further identify those needs and to widen the gap between where the client is now and where the client wants to be. Again, great selling skills including active listening and effective open ended questioning.

Step Four is Making the Presentation by Overcoming Stalls and Objections. At this step, the selling skills again are being able to turn stalls into objections and then overcome those objections. Preparation by understanding the client is necessary within this step of the sales process.
If all has gone well, then Step 5 is Gaining Commitment. Sometimes, this may be as simple as saying "Where do we go from here?" Again, this is a selling skill.

After commitment is made, the product or services are delivered in Step 6. Even though the sale has been officially made from the issuance of a purchase order or the shake of a hand, the sale is not complete until the customer receives delivery and is satisfied. Step 6 is a selling skill because the sales transaction is not complete.

The final and last step is follow up and asking for a referral. With the sales complete, now marketing skills once again kick in. Many in sales fail to ask for referrals and lose an incredibly amount of business. HINT: You may need to revisit your sales training.

When marketing skills and selling skills are united in a proven sales process, the process flows almost seamlessly from each step to the next step. Then when the final step is completed, the sales process starts all over again. So if you truly wish to increase sales, look to your sales process and make sure that your sales people do not violate the process.

The Importance of Stellar Marketing Skills

The Importance of Stellar Marketing Skills

Author: James Copper

Whether you\'re a freelancer or the head of your own company, you probably already at least somewhat understand the value of having excellent marketing skills when it comes to making the most of your ventures.

The fact of the matter is you can be the very best web designer in the world, own a restaurant that makes the absolute best pizza in town, or run a law firm with a spotless service record but none of these things will help your business to grow further if you\'re not equipped with adequate marketing skills. Good business and marketing skills go hand in hand, so if you find yours aren\'t up to snuff, it might be time to make use of one of your many options in regards to remedying the situation.

A good place to start would be with formal education, especially if you\'re someone who is looking into a career to which marketing skills would be a great asset when it comes to finding work. Official credentials or degrees in marketing show potential employers that you take what you\'re doing seriously and give them every reason to think that you\'ll be just as dedicated when it comes to the work you do for them. Marketing skills also put you ahead of the competition, and in this day and age where job security isn\'t what it used to be, that\'s essential in order to succeed.

If you\'re a freelancer, or are hoping to become one in the future, marketing skills are even more important in order to achieve success. You not only need to be able to offer a level of service that is a few cuts above the rest, but you\'re dead in the water before you\'ve even begun if you\'re not properly well-versed as to how to market yourself.

As with those who are seeking employment under others, freelancers can utilize a marketing degree to set themselves ahead of the competition both in practice and by making reference to the credentials themselves if you happen to offer services such as web design, copywriting, advertising, or anything similar. Clients feel more secure when it comes to hiring freelancers who take this practical, smart approach to the services they offer as education always inspires confidence in others.

Businesses and corporations can also benefit by investing in specialized training for their staff in regards to marketing skills. This practice can save business owners quite a bit of money in outsourcing fees and failed campaigns that deliver less than stellar results while elevating the performance, value, and confidence of the employees who receive the training as well.

When it comes to marketing skills training, there are so many options these days that it\'s easy and affordable to fit further education into even tight budgets. As marketing is a highly critical skill when it comes to doing good business, many business colleges, vocational schools, and educational facilities of all types offer courses in marketing with flexible scheduling options. Remote learning options are also available for those who would prefer to learn at their own pace or who find it necessary to juggle schooling with an already hectic schedule.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to improve upon your marketing skills, and whatever your situation, you\'ll soon be glad that you made this investment in your education, your career, and your future. Good business simply can\'t exist without good marketing, and by taking the time to acquire marketing skills that meet current industry standards you ensure yourself a place in the fast-paced business world of the future.

Basic Marketing Skills

Basic Marketing Skills

Author: Barry Anderson

So you’ve started a business, possibly with a few customers already on the books from a previous business or employment. You decide that you need to find some more customers, but you quickly realise that your skills and experience are focussed on delivering your products or services. How do you find the new customers that you need?

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news first – there are probably many businesses out there already offering the same products and services as yours. The good news however is that if you apply some basic marketing principles, and you do this consistently over a period of time, you will bring in new business opportunities.

A simple definition of marketing is communicating the right message to the right people at the right time, in a way that is right for your business. So let’s take those four points and have a closer look at each one in turn.

The right message

Much has been written about what to say to potential clients, as well as how to say it. The key point to keep in mind is that your potential customer must see the benefit to them in buying your product or service. Generally when businesses (and people) are buying, they either want to move away from an undesirable situation, or move toward a situation they would like to be in. Your messages therefore need to reflect this.

You should pay particular attention to your headline. This is the part that will either make people want to read on, or switch them off. Top advertising writers typically spend 75-80of their time working on the headline for their message.

Your writing should use the words ‘you’ and ‘yours’ – and should talk about solving your prospect’s rather than about what your product or service is.

The right people

Whether you sell to other businesses or to consumers, you should be very clear on which businesses and individuals will want and be able to buy from you and on who will make the decision to buy. Consider these two very different examples.

A company that sells buildings maintenance services will want to target companies that own their own buildings. Larger buildings-maintenance companies will go after companies with multiple sites, and possibly also more complex maintenance requirements. Smaller companies will be better targeting single-site businesses where the needs are easier to meet. In many cases this company will try to get in touch with the facilities manager – or in smaller businesses the managing director or another senior person.

A retailer that sells luxury bathrooms and kitchens will want to target people in the kind of neighbourhoods with this type of residence. As this company offers a complete service from design, through materials selection and on to installation, they will be targeting people who may be very busy with other aspects of their lives.

The right time

People will buy your services if the time is right for them to buy – and these are perfect ‘leads’ for your business because the potential customer is ready to engage with you now. If they are not ready now, you should stay in contact and cultivate the opportunity until they are ready to buy. Being pushy when your prospect is simply not ready will just switch them off.

You need to think about how frequently your potential customers will buy the product or service you are offering. In the case of buildings maintenance contracts are often renewed annually, so you will need to be in touch with facilities managers in the two or three months running up to renewal. For luxury bathrooms and kitchens, the cycle is likely to be five years or more.

The right way for you

There are many ways in which you can contact your potential customers, and good marketing employs many of these methods in a combination. In deciding which methods are right for your business, you should consider the cost of each method alongside the likely returns from each. This will help you to understand the ‘return on investment’ of your marketing activities.

In conclusion

For many business owners, the world of marketing can appear to be a very confusing place. However, it is well-worth investing some time to understand the basics of how best to market your business.  Once you become practiced at it you will be pleasantly surprised by the results you can get.

How an Old Dog Taught Me An Important Marketing Skill

How an Old Dog Taught Me An Important Marketing Skill

Author: Wesley Murph

I\'m a dog lover.

And over the years my dog has taught me a ton.  Not only about life but also about sales and marketing.

How can that be?

Well, in today\'s short article I\'ll share with you how my dog taught me the most important marketing skill there is.

Here\'s a story to explain:

My dog named Elliot is going on 12 years old.  And like most 'elder' dogs he has trouble getting out of bed and moving around.  In fact, Elliot reminds me of a cross between the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan since he walks 'stiff'.

That said, Elliot will do darn near anything for his ball.

He\'ll play ball till the cows come home, no matter how much his arthritis flares up.

You could make the case that it\'s in Elliot\'s DNA to chase a ball since he\'s a retriever.

But, I\'d offer another explanation.

A simpler one which his that he is clear on what he wants.

This is very important marketing lesson too.

Let me explain:

I can\'t tell you how many times clients tell me they want to attract 'everybody' to their business.  Everybody?  Who\'s everybody?  And if it\'s 'everybody' you want coming into your small business, then you\'re better off opening the phone book and mailing a random list of people the best offer you can make.

And surely, you realize this would be a complete waste of your time and money.

Think of it like this:

Let\'s say you are a painter.  And you are trying to market your services to paint houses in a particular neighborhood.  You\'d be crazy to waste time on people who have just had their house painted.

Right?

Why would they need your services?

They wouldn\'t.  And for this reason you\'d be better off eliminating these homes from your target list, and then marketing only to the houses that have paint chipping to the ground.

This gets back to my dog Elliot knowing what he wants (which is his ball).

You see, when you know who you want to sell to, then you\'ve already won half the battle.

And in small business marketing this can make all the difference between a blockbuster campaign and a told bomb.

One last thing:

If you are serious about growing your business, then what\'s holding you back?  More than likely all you are lacking is one good idea.  But you have to be careful where you look for ideas.  Because now days everybody and their brother claims to be some kind of 'business expert'.

That said:

Can I give you more good ideas like what\'s in this article?

You better believe I can.

But, our personalities may not jive.  In fact, if there is some 'rub' between us then it\'ll never work.  You won\'t be happy.  And neither will I.  To see if we\'re a good fit, stroll on over to my website which you\'ll find in the author box below.

How to Learn Internet Marketing Skills

Author: Jerry Pelletier

For someone to successfully make money online, it is important for them to learn Internet marketing. Just about any individual who gets into Internet marketing or any worthwhile business that does not learn the proper skills will fail or spend loads of unnecessary time and money trying to figure things out. This is why it pays to learn the trade before you embark on it.

Learning to Get the Click...
The first most important thing you need to learn in Internet marketing is how to drive traffic to your sites. An experienced Internet marketer knows not only how to drive traffic to their products and services, but how to drive free targeted traffic. This can take a long time to do without skills and training. Not only do you have to get people to your sites, but you have to capture their attention enough to click through and at least give you their name and email address so you can correspond with them in the future.

Finding the Right Education...
You need to learn Internet marketing skills through a good training program to effectively do this. When looking for a training program, you do not want to settle with any program. You want to find programs that come with recommendations. How do you find these? You can search on the Internet for reviews. Reviews are a great way to research the credibility of a program. These reviews are real people telling you about their experience with the program so you can make a decision if it is right for you.

You want to find training programs that will teach you all the best methods of generating traffic to your sites and how to convert them into sales. This would include learning SEO techniques and how to use PPC advertising effectively. You want a program that will show you how to reach top rankings in the search engines through free methods.

When you learn Internet marketing skills, you gain the knowledge you need to expand your web presence, brand yourself and increase your customer base. Knowledge is power and when you have it, you knock out the competition. Only through a good training program can you learn these necessary skills.

Many Marketing Strategies...
To become a successful marketer, you have to learn not only the basics of Internet marketing but the advanced strategies as well. There are many different strategies out there to make money online such as AdSense, AdWords, article marketing, setting up a blog, keyword research, finding a good niche to market, building a list and taking advantage of viral marketing. These are just some of the many tricks and techniques you will learn with a good training program.

Learn Internet marketing skills from professionals who are going to give you honest reviews on legitimate strategies that have made them money. You want the experts to teach you how to do what they have already done. You do not want to fall trap to those so called gurus who are only looking to make few bucks. Find the reputable professional programs that have your best interest in mind and you will begin to build a huge knowledge bank of exactly what you need to know to succeed in Internet marketing and making money online.
